Outdoor Clothing for Women

shortsNo longer subjected to societal constraints, women now participate in as many outdoor and extreme sports as men do. Everything from surfing, to sailing, skateboarding, to mountain biking, mountain climbing to hiking, camping to rambling, and everything in between! Woman have the confidence, the freedom, the finance and (probably due to a combination to women having money and wanting to participate) access to suitable equipment, enabling them to participate in outdoor activities.

When you are going to participate in an outdoor activity, whether that be an extreme sport or a spot of light hiking, it is extremely important to have the correct outdoor clothing, gear and accessories. Having the correct equipment will not only improve your safety margins, but should also enable you to perform to the best of your abilities. You should ensure that at all times your clothing and equipment fit you properly and are in good working order. Women`s outdoor clothing, gear and accessories can be found from many good outlets, which specialise in outdoor equipment.

The big trusted brands, such as Helly Hansen, Volcom, The North face, and Marmot, (to mention but a few) all manufacture outdoor clothing lines for both men and women. The women`s ranges have been specifically designed, incorporating the latest design technology, to ensure that the clothing and equipment responds to a woman`s body. Base layers have been tailored to wick sweat away from areas need it, whilst the clothing remains lightweight and breathable.

When you are participating in outdoor activities you should ensure that your body is supported and insulated correctly. For example, women will need to invest in a good sports bra. Sports bras are imperative for providing support, ensuring you avoid strains (and avoid sagging). Merrell, for example, do a range of tank tops, designed specifically for outdoor activities, that have sports bras built in to them. This allows freedom of movement, provides an all important base layer, and also provides you with a comfortable fashionable item of clothing.

Base layers and underwear are an essential building block of body responsive women`s outdoor clothing. In addition to Sports Bras, women should also consider `Active Briefs`, provided by companies such as Patagonia, these briefs will wick sweat away from your body, are seamless, breathable and can help you avoid chaffing.

In addition to base layers, outdoor women`s clothing should include: a breathable all weather jacket, well fitted walking or hiking boots/shoes and obviously, specific equipment relevant to the outdoor sport that you are participating in, i.e., wetsuit, skate shoes, cycling shorts, etc.

Indeed, as well as manufacturing clothing specifically designed for outdoor activities and sports, companies such as Volcom, embrace their extreme sports ethos, and produce clothing lines that will keep you looking good, whether you are participating in a sport, or simply chilling out with your mates. This mish mash of `urban chic meets extreme sports` results in a clothing line that exudes coolness, uniqueness and street style.

Fashion Posters

Want to turn that miniature image of your favorite celebrity into a high gloss poster you can paste on the wall? Or could it be that you are in the debut-2007-fashion-posterfashion industry, and want glossy posters to tell others about what you do and what your products are like – keeping in mind that the fashion world is a place where a picture is often ‘truly worth a thousand words?’

If you are facing any one of those scenarios, poster printing – fast turning into an indispensable tool in the fashion industry – is something you will want to know about. Normally accomplished through printing technologies called gravure printing and the whole range of technologies used in what is referred to as ‘large format printing,’ poster printing can transform otherwise ordinary looking pictures into graphics that catch everyone’s attention.

Obviously, if you happen to be in the fashion industry, stories about a technology like this can sound like music to your ears. After all, the nature of the fashion industry is such that a lot of communication with potential buyers has to be done graphically. Many of the people standing at a fashion store in some part of the world at this very moment looking for buy on or another item, whether a piece of ladies fashion or a piece of mens fashion, are doing so out of the influence of one or another glossy poster they came across, depicting their favorite celebrity or model donning the outfit in question.

Now how appealing such a poster turns out to be depends to a great extent on the specific poster printing technology employed in developing it. And with new poster printing technologies developing by the day (and old poster printing technologies being constantly updated), it is clear that the only fashion houses that can survive in the fashion world today are those that are ready to embrace technology and keep moving with it. After all, a fashion house that manages to produce really appealing posters of attractive people wearing the outfits it produces has already won half the battle – because in a way of speaking, fashion items are increasingly getting ‘judged by the cover only.’ Many of the fashion items we consider premium today, it turns out, are not premium because of their ‘quality’ but rather because of endorsements they have received from various celebrities, where such endorsement is presented to the public through some glossy poster bearing a high definition and well lit photo of the celebrity, posing wearing the fashion item in question.

corsets-furet-vintage-fashion-posterIf you are a fashion house dealing in vintage fashion, you could think that you have nothing to do with all this poster printing buzz, because after all, vintage fashion has to be presented somehow ‘drab’ to look authentic, or such is the thinking in many people’s minds. Granted, items of vintage fashion are best depicted in the photography of the time period they represent. But since they are to be targeted at a modern audience, it often turns out that you have to present them against a glossy background (without altering their color schemes, of course) if you are to get anyone to look at them more than once.

And so when all is said and done, every player in the fashion industry, regardless of their interests, finds themselves having to embrace modern poster printing technology to survive.

Designer Trainers

Of all the trainer shoe companies that are marketing men’s trainers today one of the most famous and prolific has to be Nike. Nike started out life as Blue Ribbon Sports (BRS) in 1964 initially operating as a distributor for Japanese sports shoe maker Onitsuka Tiger and selling mostly at track events. 180px-nike-logo-orange_svg1In 1971 the BRS and Onitsuka Tiger relationship was coming to an end and BRS was started to go it alone with its own line of trainers bearing the now famous “Swooch” trademark. In 1978 BRS officially became Nike which was the line of shoes it had marketed since 1972. With the now iconic “Waffle trainer” introduced in 1974, Nike had reached 50% of the USA market in 1980 when it finally became a public company.

lacost

Sportswear Company Lacoste, another iconic label in the sports fashion industry, finally entered the fashion shoe market in 1985 when they introduced their designer label launching the new line of Lacoste tennis shoes. Once established in the fashion footwear market they followed shortly afterwards in 1986 with their “deck shoes” and then in 1988 with their “walking shoes”.

Now with the latest explosion in the fashion trainer market the number of designer labels such as Armani, Diesel and Pierre Cardin, have also grown exponentially to an extent where there are now designer labels that only make fashion trainers with no connection to either the sports or fitness world at all. However, many sports companies having now seen the marketing potential  have now adopted these designer features into their own trainers moving the fashion elements back into the sports and fitness world.

lacoste-raven-low-leatherBuying trainers can now get really confusing especially when you wade through all the different varieties now sold on the Internet or your local store. With so many different styles and types of trainers to choose from, making that right choice can take a lot of speculation. For a starting point you really need to decide what you need the new trainers for.

  • If you’re just looking for a pair of trainers to wear with your casual jeans to over the weekend then you won’t be too concerned about the fit and comfort of the trainer.
  • But if you’re looking for running shoes for sports then you’ll have to be more careful about what you’re buying.

If you’re an enthusiastic jogger you’ll need to make sure you have the right running shoes for your feet so that you don’t injure your bearing or your feet while you run. For tennis, you’ll need to have a trainer that’s completely unlike the running trainer recommended for jogging.
With so many diverse functions for sneakers and trainers it’s imperative that you to buy the right shoe for the right purpose.

nike-air-force-1Fashion trainers these days easily make up the vast majority of the entire trainer range. They  have now become so far most removed from their classical sports trainer ancestors in terms of look and function, they’re absolutely useless for any sport other than the dash from bar to dance floor – but that’s part of the appeal. With so many variations in these fashion trainers it has now become impossible today to give a definitive description of a generic fashion trainer, however with this vast variation in styles and type one will always find a fashion trainer to suit one’s inner personality and tastes. In our modern leisure lifestyle, designer trainers perfectly finish off today’s casual fashion look that is the mainstay of many of our wardrobes. By being very innovative in their designs and creations, they have often created the demand for a particular style where none previously existed and then by releasing a limited number of such styles, a customer can truly buy something exclusive and show them off to friends knowing full well that it is not ordinary shoes that can be bought by everybody.

A certain vintage charm for Nurses with Fob Watches

Within the huge range of watches, the Fob Watch has always been thought of wistfully and with some nostalgia.  These fob watches exude an attraction that takes you back in time and their utility links them not only to a more genteel age but also is the icon of the nursing profession.  However, they are now re-emerging in the fashion world not only as fashion art but also  a useful timepiece. Fob watches it would seem are even today preferred to wrist watches by nurses due to the hygiene factor.

nurse wearing a fob watchTraditionally, nurses Fob Watches are to be seen predominantly attached to a coat or uniform lapel of the nurse. It’s historic capacity of accurate time measurement dates from the mid 19th century Crimea nurses of Florence Nightingale through to present times.  The fact that these nurses Fob Watches are once again riding the crest of popularity shows that fashions and trends go through their own cycles.

nurse fob watchNurses Fob Watches are in fact an offshoot in the long history of the “pocket” watch which were first referred to in correspondence between craftsmen and members of the upper class in the fifteenth century, and it is believed that an early prototype of the pocket watch was worn in this era around the neck. Historical figures such as the Duke of Modena were offered a “pocket clock” which was superior to that owned by the Marchese di Manta by the Italian clockmaker Bartholomew Manfredi in 1462.  These early pocket clocks were likely very heavy and rather inaccurate and certainly would only have included an hour-hand. In the years that followed many craftspeople, particularly blacksmiths, began to develop pocket-watch designs. 16th century watches were incredibly big inaccurate and were generally worn around the neck because of their girth. It is rumored that the medallion in the famous painting of Henry VIII was in fact a pocket watch around his neck. The watch was far from accurate but it was pretty, so it was worn more as jewelry than for timekeeping.

Patek Philippe Calibre 89In 1675 Charles II of England introduced waistcoats and pockets were specifically introduced to house the “pocket watch” which led to the now common typical pocket watch shape, rounded and flattened with no sharp edges. Watch fobs began to be used to assist in locating and removing the watch from the waistcoat pocket, the name originating from the German word fuppe, a small pocket.

A variety of craftsmen, such as watchmakers, casemakers, enamelers, jewelers, and engravers, came up with elaborate cases and dials. French watches, in particular, were quite decorative and expensive. It became the fashion among the aristocracy to wear and show off their pocket watches, their accuracy being of secondary importance.

Patek Philippe Wristwatch 1876In 1868, Patek Philippe produced the first wristwatch which was originally marketed as a “lady’s bracelet watch”, intended as jewelry. Then in 1904, Alberto Santos-Dumont, an early aviator, asked his friend, a French watchmaker called Louis Cartier, to design a watch that could be useful during his flights. The first man’s wristwatch was born. The greater flexibility and utilitarian uses afforded to the new wristwatch in the First World War saw it overtaking the pocket watch in daily fashion. Over the next 50 years the wristwatch, initially created as woman’s jewelry, became the universal timepiece for all. However, the sheer historical artistry and magic of the “Fob Watch” still continues to keep them high in the wish-lists of most fashion conscious people.

An incomplete wardrobe without Ugg Boots

ugg-bootsA celebrity’s wardrobe or a fashion freak’s wardrobe is incomplete without the UGG boots. The inner covering of the UGG boots is made from genuine sheep skin which gives the wearer a cozy and comfortable feel combined with explicit style and elegance.

UGG has managed to maintain its charm and magnetism over the years despite the fact that the sheep skinned boots are not considered as a pro fashion statement. UGG has still managed to be a hot favorite amongst most fashion stylists and designers. Fashion journalists believe UGG won’t be affected by any economic slump in the global market. The raw material which goes into styling these boots is sheep skin, which are pricey. But even here, it has stood tall under all circumstances in the fashion globe, maintaining its top position in the fashion industry.

Beats Economic Downturn

This unlikely sweetheart of the fashion world started activity in the Australia. UGG has had a strong presence in the Australian continent, but of late it has made its presence strongly felt in the UK. UGG was not welcomed warmly earlier by fashion houses since they had doubts on its practicality especially when it came to the chilly British weather. The fashion experts have defined UGG as recession proof. UGG has recorded a 130% increase in the sales inspite of the global recession. It is uniquely accepted amongst hi class fashion houses and celebrities. Inspite of the fact that owning a pair of UGG boots would mean a potful of money, one cannot term it as unaffordable. People who love shoes would still purchase them inspite of the downtrend in the business world.

Celebrities like Oprah Winfrey have rated UGG as her favorite discovery. Male celebrities like Brad Pitt have been ranked as UGG fans. UGG would not have even dreamt that it would attract so much of celebrity endorsements. UGG boots are specially designed for both the warm and cool climates. UGG boots ensure that your feet remain warm during the cooler months and impart a cooling effect in the summer months. UGG boots have expanded its color range other than its standard brown and offers colors like snow peak white, grey and shades of gold. They also offer the entire range of flip flops at attractive bargains.

The Lyle and Scott brand of fashion

lyle-and-scottThink knitwear, golf and there is only one name you can come up with. Lyle and Scott, established in 1874 in the small Scottish township of Hawick, by William Lyle and Walter Scott quickly established themselves as a premier brand among the golfing fraternity. Their designs which are a unique blend of original as well as exhibiting influences of Pringle continue to be a trailblazer with their Golden Eagle insignia leading the way. Starting off modestly manufacturing only underwear and other hosiery material, they forayed into making pullovers, cardigans and other attire for golf in 1926 and carved out a niche for themselves. Other milestones followed as under:

· In 1938, they gave a new lease of life to the shaky underwear business by entering into an arrangement with Coopers of US to manufacture Y-Front underwear and enjoyed brisk business in the European markets.

· In 1954, they joined hands with the French designer Christian Dior which gave them access to the Canadian market.

· Finally in 1967, they launched their own range of brightly colored golfing attire motivated by Doug Sanders, and embellished with their insignia, the Golden Eagle. This logo was a fitting tribute to Scottish tradition and fitted perfectly with their niche product – golf attire.

· In 1985, they introduced the golf attire for ladies called La Femme which became hugely popular.

This trend continued with some of the famous golfing professionals like Malcom Gregson and Brian Huggett endorsing and donning their clothing through the sixties. Other professionals from this sport continued the tradition and proudly led the Golden Eagle to various triumphs.

In the year 2002, the company ventured into designer wear with a new identity and is now one of the foremost brands in this category.

This brand has gained popularity among the non sporting public also with product offerings in the polo shirts, T-shirt, jumpers, windbreaker and shorts segments.

When it comes to polo shirts, we always seem to refer to only Lacoste or Fred Perry collections. Recently, Lyle and Scott unveiled their range of checkered polo shirts with different combinations of red/white, black/white and blue/white patterns. Their collection of neon tip polos bearing neon colors on the sleeves were a big hit. At one point in time in the year 2007, these shirts outsold even the Lacoste brand of polo shirts.

The brand’s knitwear products are manufactured from the best and finest cashmere and wool and their recently refurbished machining process oriented towards full fashioning has ensured a smoother and snug fit. This has enabled the brand to move away from pure golf and sports categories and cater also to the trendier and fashion conscious.

lyle-and-scott-cardiganLyle and Scott are also credited with dressing up some of the top bands in recent months with the cardigan and responsible for the return of this garment. This outfit with its cuts and button holes has been referred to as a very soft jacket and is very functional with pockets.
